When parents send their children off to school on the big yellow bus and we step onto our mass transit option, we put a significant amount of trust in the drivers. There is an expectation that the driver will do everything in their power to keep us safe. While we have these expectations, they are not always met.

Two buses collided this week in Florida that sent residents from all generations to the local hospital where they were treated for injuries. The commercial vehicle accident occurred on Thursday morning, Oct. 27, 2011 and involved a school bus and a commuter bus.

According to https://jgwinterlaw.com/ the accident investigators, the commuter bus driver failed to see the flashing red lights located on the rear of the school bus and did not notice the stop sign arm extended out from the driver’s side of the school bus. At approximately 8:00 a.m. the LYNX commuter bus slammed into the back end of the school bus picking up children on Orange Blossom Trail. The school bus had been transporting the 25 students to Zellwood Elementary School.

The 60-year-old driver of the commuter bus was not the only one injured by his own failure to see the stopped bus ahead of him. The collision caused injury to four students on the school bus and injured another three adult passengers on the commuter bus.

While investigators say that there are charges pending against the commuter bus driver, there have been no reports about what caused the failure to see the bus ahead of him. Experienced Monroe dwi attorneys Eric Johnson are more than equipped and ready to handle these cases.
